Vocabulary Builder (Beta)

The Vocabulary Builder quizes you on a foriegn language (or even a language you already know). Simply add your new vocabulary words in each language (or the word and its definition) using the program. You can save and load your vocabulary list. The program will then quiz you when you are ready. Each time you get a word correct, it halves the chance it will ask that word again, if you get a word wrong it doubles the chance it will ask the word again.

This version limits you to a list of 100 words. If you wish to order the full version, e-mail orders@codevision.com.

The download process is two steps:

  1. Download and install Java Web Start - If you don't have Java Web Start on your computer (and it is brand new, so you probably don't) follow the link to download and install it. It is a very easy process, but the file is a little less than 6MB.
  2. Download and install the Vocabulary Builder - It is only about 10KB, so this will be very quick, but you will see a security alert because the file is "signed" with a temporary development certificate. If you trust it, click ok (or yes or whatever the affirmative button is) to try it out!
  3. Optionally you can also download onto your computer a copy a sample English-Swedish vocabulary. You can also create a new vocabulary in the program by selecting "File->New".

Since this is beta, please send in your comments. Here is the current list of "issues" in order of importance:

  1. Need to provide instructions. (Currently the instructions are just a table of contents for what I will write later.)
  2. The toolbar just under the menu doesn't act properly if you load a new vocabulary or create a new vocabulary after you have already had a vocabulary in the system.
  3. Need to add an icon instead of the default Java icon.
  4. Need to place "Close" buttons on the dialog boxes that occasionally pop up. For now, they can be closed by pressing the close icon in the title bar.
