HLN Today

HLN Today is the internet "News"paper dedicated to Huey Lewis and the News. I started it in June of 1995 because I had been using the web and I wanted to learn more about it, give back to the web community for all of the great information I used, and because the band was one of the things I was interested in which didn't have a nice web site at the time. Six months later, two of the band members (Sean - keyboards and vocals and Bill - drums and vocals) started writing me and offered to help by giving me any information I needed. A year later I met them and the rest of the band for the first time.

I am told that when the band considered building their own web site, the consensus was something like, "Why should we? What Joe is doing is as good as anything we might get someone else to do." In May of 1997 the web site became more work than one person could do, so since then Glenna Long and I have done the site together.

Blackboard

I've recently started working for "a leading enterprise software company for e-Education." in Washington, DC. Since I've only started I don't have much to say except it is fun to be in downtown every day. I think I could have lunch at a different restaurant every day of the year!

Stacey Yan, Real Estate

I've started a small web site for my girlfriend's Real Estate business. I hope to play a little more with style sheets on that site, while helping her with her business.

Games.com

I was the Lead Web Engineer on the Games.com web site beginning in the summer of 2000 until there was a change in management of the web site.

America One

America One is the telecommunications division of Capital One, a large company primarily know for credit cards. In January of 1999 I began working with a team of 15 people on an e-commerce web site to allow customers to order cellular phones and service.

I had several roles in the project. I was the primary user interface designer for the web site. The user interface was created by three teams of people: an outside, artistic marketing firm, our own company's business side, and our information technology team. I was responsible for building the prototype designs, guiding the other teams in how to work with the back end systems, constructively criticizing designs based on usability concerns, and finally constructing and integrating the final pages based on the work all of the teams completed. I also was one of the builders of the servlet layer and the project's security designee.
